Workshops
Introduction to Power Carving
I'm available to do some workshops with students, groups and individuals who are interested in getting into power carving with wood.
Some of the steps in the workshop are:
1. Design and Visualization
2. Blocking out the main shape
3. Shaping
4. Detailing and Sanding.
5. Burning, Sealing and Finish
I use a variety of power tools including chainsaws, angle grinders, die grinders, rotary carvers, sanders, circular saws and jig saws.
The Miigwan (Feather) Making workshop is a good introduction to carving that uses most of the tools except for the chainsaws. The chainsaws are for experienced chainsaw users only.
The Miigwan Workshop uses the small circular saw, jigsaw, angle grinders and propane torch. Each participant gets to design their own feather that they can hang on a wall or display as they wish. The final piece will have a burnt wood look with an oil or varnish finish.
